Origin: Western Polynesia, Fiji    (Provenance: Purchased 30 years ago from an old dealer named John Pondgrass)

Period/Date:  Likely early 19th century         

Materials:     vesi wood, Sap resin, human teeth

Description:  This terrific example has beautiful color and 10 rounded full lobes.   There are 3 teeth total, presumably from a fallen victim.  All tooth inlays are guaranteed original.  One lobe to the left of  an inset tooth has a single old kill mark.  The handgrip has 5 inches of tavatava carving.  In good condition with some shrinkage and separation along the shaft.  A custom stand maybe ordered for a fee.
