19TH C. FIJIAN ROOTSTOCK CLUB

Origin:  W. Polynesia, Fiji  

Period/Date:  early to mid 19th century

Materials:       vesi ironwood

Description:  A classic rootstock club having a dense cluster or raised root nodules forming the striking surface around the head.   It has rich reddish brown color and has seen long use.   It shows evidence of stone tool marks and polishing!  In good condition with some hairline age cracks and minor old chip to the butt of the handle.  A custom stand maybe ordered for a fee.
